2013 Conference Activities

FLASLA members are encouraged to bring spouses and guests to the 2013 conference.  Below we have a list of suggested activities they may enjoy in the St. Petersburg area.    

Great Explorations Exhibit - With fun educational exhibits, it is one of America's top museums for children.  The interactive exhibits make learning fun for visitors of all ages.

Lowry Park Zoo - A diverse collection with 1,500 animals housed in 56 acres of lush natural habitats. With interactive exhibits, you can enjoy close but safe contact with the species.

The Florida Aquarium - Experience one of the best aquariums in the country, it showcases the aquatic animals and ecosystems of Florida and around the world.

The Pier Aquarium - A private not-for-profit aquarium and marine education science center.  The action never stops with their daily touch tank experience and shark feeding.

Ghost Tour - Peer into the shadows and mysteries of Florida's "Sunshine City" on a candlelight walking tour of St. Petersburg! 

Florida Botanical Gardens - The gardens inspire and educate visitors by showcasing flora, fauna and natural resources in surroundings that promote environmentally friendly techniques.

Chihuly Collection - A stunning collection of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly's unique artwork in a magnificent 10,000 square foot setting.

Museum of Fine Arts - From a legendary permanent collection, to fascinating traveling exhibits, the MFA is ready to inspire you with diverse and ever-changing opportunities to experience art.

Dolphin Watching & Shelling Cruise - Enjoy watching playful dolphins in their natural habitat during your cruise.  Relax with a leisurely stroll along the shore while collecting seashells.

Dolphin Watching & Snorkeling Adventure - Enjoy dolphin watching, snorkeling, shelling, exploring wildlife, and picnicking on the secluded beach of Egmont Key Island. 

Kayak Rentals Weedon Island - The trail at Weedon Preserve takes you through a mangrove forest via tunnels where you will see beautiful birds, dolphins and manatees.

Paddle Board Lessons - Lessons include stretching/warm-up, proper paddle technique, standing on the board, maneuvering and 1.5 hours of free time.

Segway Tours - Ride through some of St. Pete's most popular destinations with an experienced guide and discover how beautiful downtown St. Petersburg really is.

Bike Rentals - Their fleet of unique vehicles offer outdoor recreation for sightseeing, people watching and a touch of exercise that will enhance any leisure time experience.

Sunken Gardens - As St. Petersburg's oldest living museum, Sunken Gardens is a botanical paradise in the midst of a bustling city.

Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary - A truly unique place, it is considered one of the top rehabilitation centers in the world.  Admitted everyday for a variety of reasons are on average 20-30 wild birds.

Fort DeSoto State Park - With a number of amenities including playgrounds, beaches, trails, swim centers and much more, you find yourself absorbed in the abundance of natural beauty.

Glazer Children Museum - Pilot a cruise ship, design a city, build an airplane, slide down a fireman's pole...your world is here to play.

Tampa Museum of Art - A proud culmination of three decades of cooperation among art organizations, citizens and government agencies in the Hillsborough County.

Grand Central District - A collect of art galleries, antiques, retail shops, dining & drinking establishments and much more!

Dali Museum - Visit the world's most comprehensive collection of woks by the late Spanish surrealist, including 96 oil pairings, original drawings, bookworks, prints, sculptures and much more!

St. Petersburg Beaches - St. Petersburg is the home of pristine sugary white sand beaches, clear gulf waters, warm sunshine and plenty of hospitality.  Visit one of the many beaches and spend your day on - and in - the water.

Vinoy Activities - Jogging/Fitness Trail, Sailing, Tennis, Dive-In Movies, Game Room, Lawn Games ($275 includes cornhole, croquet, ladder ball), 2 hour volleyball tournament ($300), 2 one hour Private (group) Yoga class up to 40 people ($300).
