Land FX Workshop: Meeting the Florida Water Conservation Requirements in the Irrigation Design Process with Land F/X - 2 CEC Pending

Date:  Thursday July 18, 2013
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Price: $35

Persistent drought conditions throughout Florida have required watering restrictions to be imposed that have resulted in a very confined watering window.  The issue for Landscape Architects is that they need to ensure that their irrigation design will meet the needs for the project within the constraints of the Water Management Districts and local regulatory requirements. This Workshop will be a presentation and training session utilizing AutoCAD and Land F/X to determine these project requirements. Plant watering needs will be reviewed, and Land F/X will be used to determine a project’s watering window and irrigation system requirements, all at the preliminary stage of design, before any irrigation is placed into the drawing.

Instructors: David Farmer, ASLA, CEO and Jeremiah Farmer, CTO, Ecografx.

Pre-Workshop Setup Instructions for all Land FX Irrigation Workshop Attendees:

If the attendees wish to only observe the presentation, there is no computer or software requirement.

If the attendees are participating in the training session, they will need the following a laptop and software requirements:

  • All participating attendees are required to bring their own laptop with WI-FI enabled access. Make sure your wireless is working properly, your battery is full charged and you bring your laptop’s power cord for supplemental power.
  • Attendees will need AutoCAD, Version 2008 or greater, and Land F/X loaded on their laptops.  If they do not have those, they can download a trial version of Land F/X and AutoCAD from www.landfx.com.  A trial version of each is good for only 30 days, so download trial versions as required less than 30 days before the presentation.
  • The workshop drawing and support files can be downloaded at www.landfx.com/flasla.  These could be downloaded at the start of the workshop, or a few days before.
  • Place shortcuts for each of the above on your desktop so that you can easily access them during the workshop.

Vectorworks Workshop: Utilizing Current BIM/SIM Technology for Sustainable Site Design -  3 CEC Pending

Date:  Thursday July 18, 2013
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Price: $35

This hands-on computer workshop will engage participants in the sustainable site design process by utilizing information modeling tools within a site-specific, computer-aided design application. Similar to how Building Information Modeling (BIM) software assists architects in better building design, Site Information Modeling (SIM) facilitates better site design Attendees will learn how to quickly create, modify, and analyze a 3D site digital terrain model promoting SITESTM objectives for soil and water management. They will also create hydro-zones from intelligent polygonal objects capable of reporting water usage, and utilize customizable worksheets to tabulate their water use data for water efficiency as promoted by the U.S. EPA’s Water Smart program and SITES. Finally, they will evaluate the effects of proposed plantings by introducing solar directional light into a 3D site model and producing still views to control solar heat gain.

Instructor: Eric Gilbey, PLA, ASLA, Landscape Architecture Industry Specialist, Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc.

Pre-Workshop Setup Instructions for all Vectorworks BIM/SIM Technology for Sustainable Site Design Attendees:

  • All attendees are required to bring their own laptop with WI-FI enabled access. Make sure your wireless is working properly, your battery is fully charged and you bring your laptop’s power cord for supplemental power.
  • Download and install on your laptop a trial version of Vectorworks 2013 (free) approximately 1 week before the workshop begins. You can obtain this software by clicking on the following link: http://www.vectorworks.net/trial.
  • You will be directed to choose a category (Choose Professional) and country (United States or other if applicable).
  • Complete the personal/business information form, providing the required information necessary to get the serial number emailed to you.
  • You will be directed to the software download page and almost immediately receive the same instructions within an email, which also includes your serial number to use while installing the software. Notice the download links allows you to pick the Windows or Mac software download, and we recommend the "all content” download. The day that you install the software is the first of the 30-day evaluation time period.
  • Place shortcuts for each of the above on your desktop so that you can easily access them during the workshop.

Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Price: $35

Go from a 2-D plan to 3-D model in under 2 hours! – with Trimble Sketchup Boot Camp. In this hands-on computer workshop, we will explore Trimble SketchUp’s capabilities and opportunities while we model a community garden from a hand-drawn sketch. Learn how to use Sketchup in your Landscape Architecture design process as we walk-through drawing preparation, modeling tool use, rendering styles, and export considerations. The techniques covered in this course can be applied to almost any scale of project.

Instructor: Richard Peterika, ASLA, Senior Design Associate, Ekistics Design Studio, Inc.

Pre-Workshop Setup Instructions for all Sketchup Bootcamp Attendees:

  • All attendees are required to bring their own laptop with WI-FI enabled access. Make sure your wireless is working properly, your battery is full charged and you bring your laptop’s power cord for supplemental power.
